I am very excited that people have shown so much interest in taking classes again. After everything we have been through between being isolated due to the pandemic, or house bound due to the snowy winter, it seems like you are all ready to get out and start something new.
In the past I post a list of classes and a date for each class. I am also hearing that many folks are busy working during the day. So I would like to list a variety of classes that you might be interested in taking. Each class is listed with a “Level” at the end of the description as I want everyone to be comfortable with the skills you will learn. None of the classes require a fancy machine, just a machine in good working order that can sew a straight stitch. I have many samples of projects on the wall, and they were all sewn with a basic straight stitch! So when you come in I will help you match the class to the sample. If you are interested in a class, chances are you could interest a few of your friends. Four people is all I need for a class!
Pot Holder Class: Learn the basics with scraps and end up with a darling pot holder. If you don’t have scraps you can go through mine. Learn how to use a rotary cutter, mat and ruler… and follow pattern directions with my help. These make great Christmas gifts. Level: Beginner
Flannel Rag Quilt Class: This is a very fun quilt to make as it is quick, easy and washable so it makes a great baby blanket or play mat. Also great to cuddle up with on our next snowy day. You will learn to use a rotary cutter, ruler and mat to measure and cut your own square, “sandwich” them and then sew them together. Level: Beginner
Fusible Applique Class: This class only requires sharp scissors, pins and a product called “Fusible Web” There are many examples and patterns throughout the store. Most all of them show you how to create a picture with scraps of fabric. You trace the pattern onto the fusible web, iron it to the fabric and then cut it out. It is really simple and fun. You then sew around you pieces. I have found it is fun for people to bring there scraps and have a “share” pile of fabrics that you can share with others. Level: Beginner
Patchwork Class: This technique is one that our grandmothers learned so that they could use fabric scraps to make into a quilt. Over the years the technique is taught through a pattern. The pattern tells you what size to cut each piece and in what order you sew them together to make a “block”. The blocks are then sewn into a quilt top and eventually sandwiched between a layer of batting and a piece of fabric and then quilted to keep all the layers together! This is a longer process, the quilting can be done by a quilter who has a quilt machine. Some prefer to quilt there quilt by hand which is a longer process but very satisfying. My advice is to start small so you don’t become overwhelmed. Requires a ruler, rotary cutter and mat. Level: Intermediate
Paper Piecing Class: This technique again uses scraps of fabric to create a picture or design. You actually sew on a line, but you have to put the fabric on the wrong side of the pattern, pin it down and sew on the right side of the pattern. Once you get the technique down, it can be very fun, but some find it frustrating. I have samples for you to try to see how you like it before you commit to a class. Level: Intermediate
Panel Quilt Class: You have probably all seen fabric panels, some are a scene or picture of an animal. Most panels are 24” x 42” so quilters add more fabric to the panel to expand it to a Lap size quilt of even larger. Instead of sewing small pieces together you sew wide strips around the panel to make it bigger. This is easier and faster. Panels also come in 10 or 12 inch blocks that you can sew together. Level: Confident beginner
Drunkards Path Revisited Class: Drunkards path has is an old pattern, but today has some new twists. I have a book that shows a variety of patterns from very easy to more complex. I have put some small samples out for you to look at. The book contains all the templates you would need. The pattern also lends itself to using scraps, so if you are looking for something to do with all those bags of scraps this is the lass for you. Requites, pencil, sharp scissors and lots of pins because you will be learning to sew curves! Level: Intermediate
If you have a specific need that I haven’t listed please let me know. Perhaps you want to learn to use a pattern to sew a shirt or baby clothes. Just let me know, I can show you how to sew clothing.
The sky is the limit. The idea is to have fun with your friends while you are learning a new skill.
I prefer to have four people in a class so I can get to everyone. Just find 3 other people that want to learn the same thing at a time that is convenient for your group and I will try to meet the time and day. Hopefully this will work for all of us!

CALLING ALL QUILTERS!!! We currently have a very small group of veteran quilters who are anxious to share their skills with you. We need your help to grow our membership. There are no dues, or demands placed on you during the year. You can choose to join us when we make small projects for our quilt show, it is up to you. We sincerely hope that you will be excited to display your quilt, wall hanging or table runner at our annual quilt show. The outdoor show is free, there are no entry fees and our goal is to earn enough money through the sales of our Guild Quilt to offer scholarships to our Laytonville High School graduates. We do need help hanging quilts, greeting people and selling tickets. It is fun and we have found that the graduates really benefit. This year we will be having our show on May 28th and 29th so we can beat the August heat. Come join us. We meet on the third Wednesday of the month here at the shop. We have found we can social distance in the shop, or as weather permits outside. Meeting Time is 10AM.
