The Fat Quail Newsletter for Sept. & Oct. 2011
Greetings, First of all, on behalf of Girls Gone Stitch’n I would like to thank all of you who braved the warm weather to come visit our quilt show last weekend. Many of you were so generous to allow us to include your beautiful quilts in the show, one could easily see the talented women that were represented. “How can I vote for just one?” was heard over and over again. We are happy to congratulate Lani Ulvila who won best of show with her large sample quilt, entirely hand pieced and hand quilted!! We promise to add more categories next year!!! Mark your calendar for the last weekend in August 2012 for our next show.
Speaking of quilt shows, please remember to zip over to Lakeport on Oct. 1st & 2nd for The Ladies of the Lake Quilt show. It is one of my favorite shows of the year, fantastic quilts, great vendors, demonstrations all in a warm friendly atmosphere, hope to see you there. I received another shipment of batiks today and there are many beauties among them. If you haven’t stopped by lately the batik room is bursting! Also new fabrics by Fabric Freedom are on their way, and I am in the middle of putting out Christmas samples to get you in the mood. Check out the class offerings which include a couple of Christmas projects. Now that it is fall we can come indoors, dust off that sewing machine, and get started on a few projects. Happy stitch’n! Sincerely, Debbie

The Fat Quail July Newsletter/ Class Schedule
Good Morning,
I hope all of you have been able to checkout my new website! From now on I will post the newsletter and classes there so you can view it at your convenience. I just have to thank Lisa Bowles one more time for all the time and artistic energy she put in creating this great site. Leave it to the young to drag the computer illiterate into the 21st century!
If any of you subscribe to Fons and Porter which will hit the news stands July 12th ,I thought I would let you know that two of the featured fabric lines; “Choo Choo You” fabric collection from Clothworks and “Wilderness Park” from Wilmington Prints will be here at the shop for you! I can’t guarantee that I will have samples made up, but I will have a download for you.
Also arriving are Austrailian fabrics by M & S Textiles along with a beautiful book full of patterns for quilts as well as clothing made from these unique fabrics. A variety of collections from Robert Kauffman are arriving including new batiks and batik strips from a line of fabric called Sorrento. Using this collection, one of the designers has designed “Split Decision” which is a twist on log cabin with an inventive curve component. The sample was exceptionally dynamic.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for The Heart of the Redwoods Quilt Show, July 16th and 17th. The Fat Quail will be there so the store will be closed. “Hot August Quilts” will be held outside at The Fat Quail on August 27th and 28th. We hope to see you at least one of these venues! Happy Quilting! Debbie
Hi everyone,
It's that time again...summer! We are starting to get organized for our annual August quilt show and want your quilts! The show will be held this year on the 27th and 28th of August at The Fat Quail Quilt Shop. If you are interested in submitting a quilt for the show, please download the form below and mail it to the address on the form with your information. Entrants are not required to be members of Long Valley Quilters Group and we welcome anyone to participate!
A few new notes this year, we can only accept 3 quilts per person, and each quilt will be required to have a 3" sleeve for ease of hanging.
I look forward to seeing your amazing creations. It is always such a delight and surprise receiving the quilts that come our way.
Best, Debbie

Tah-dah! This is our finished quilt made by the members of our quilter's group, Long Valley Quilters! Each year we raffle off a beautiful quilt with all proceeds going towards a scholarship for a qualified student (or students) at Laytonville Highschool. The drawing is held in August at our annual quilt show. You do not have to be present, or even a local to win. To enter the drawing, you can come in and buy a ticket at the store or when you see us out in front of Geiger's Market during the month of July. Alternatively, if you are an out-of-towner, please email me your name, address, and number of tickets you'd like, and I will gladly send you some. Just fill out the tickets, and return them with payment and you're ready to go. The quilt this year is an especially big hit and tickets are going really fast! So come on in and make a contribution to benefit your local community, and enter yourself to win a one of a kind, handmade heirloom.
Greetings,
First of all, The Long Valley Quilters would like to thank all of you who participated in our "For the Love of Mom" quilt show on May 7th. We were lucky with the weather and those who came really seemed to appreciate the endless hours that friends and relatives put into the keepsakes that span generations. It just proves how much love is out there if we just take the time to look for it.
Right after Mother's Day, Annie and I drove to Salt Lake City to attend Spring Quilt Market. Once again we were in awe of all the talented people that are producing exceptional new patterns, books, and fabrics. Just when we thought we had seen it all, there was more. Now I have many of those new books and patterns in the store so you can share in the excitement. I also have a new fabric collection by Riley Blake. It is called Sew Cherry and is billed as "Retro with a Twist". It is bright and cheery and I just finished making a little girl's dress, and a table runner using the collection. I think you will see how versatile the fabric can be. Patterns, books and embellishments are all waiting for you to check out.
For those of you who like batiks, I now have a few long awaited orders in and on the shelf. Now you have 300 bolts of batiks to choose from! I brought back quite a few new bag patterns and new leather bag handles that really make a purse look unique. There are still some things that haven't arrived yet, so there will be new items arriving throughout the summer. I really encourage you to come in and see all the new, exciting ideas for yourself.
If you haven't already, take a peek at my classes page to see what's coming up this month!
Happy Quilting, Debbie
